I want to draw your attention to this public post in the EPUB community regarding the proposed mandating of EPUB for textbooks in Australia.

Clearly, this is alarming to the PDF community; if the idea was the catch on in Australia it could do so elsewhere, and potentially, in other publishing sectors.

Note in particular they are looking for solutions that span mobile, desktop and web.

There are, of course, various initiatives that concerned members can undertake on their own. Beyond that I believe that we as an industry also need a strategy to address this sort of initiative, and work to ensure PDF’s future in textbook publishing.

I’d like to hear this community's thoughts on this subject.

Hi PDFa Partner Members, As part of PDF Association's engagement with SafeDocs, we have developed a specification-derived, machine-readable definition of the full PDF 2.0 document object model as defined in ISO 32000-2:2020 (the PDF 2.0 dated revision which will soon be published by ISO). Following our naming convention of PDF Association assets (e.g., the Matterhorn Protocol, the Isartor Test Suite), we have codenamed this the "Arlington PDF DOM” in reference to DARPA HQ. For those who are unfamiliar with the Arlington PDF DOM, please refer to my recent OctoberPDFest SafeDocs presentation (https://youtu.be/4dUv7z99SFE). Without going into lots of detail, it is a simple-to-process, tabbed-separated textual structured definition of every dictionary and array defined in PDF 2.0, along with many ‘basic' relationships. Currently the Arlington PDF DOM is in a private GitHub repository under an Apache 2.0 license, available to all SafeDocs researchers and has already been used very successfully within SafeDocs. I would now like to begin the process of exposing this more broadly to industry while also seeking industry feedback - whether this be identifying mistakes, errors of omission or additional features/capabilities. If you are interested, please email me the GitHub usernames of those in your organization who may be interested in using the Arlington PDF DOM. No – on the ballot page is a link to the GDrive repository of the Suite that you are asking us to approve.  When I tried to review the Suite, I was/am unable to.

Dear Partner Member, as you might know, we are planning to implement the PDF Association Lead Generation Program soon. This program allows participating members - besides other functions - to respond to requests addressed to us by visitors to pdfa.org (RFPs) from their perspective. Also product suggestions can be submitted. Today we received such a request as a good example (see below). In preparation for the program - and if you feel called to do so - I would ask you to write a short answer or solution suggestion to this question (as mentioned above, including a corresponding product suggestion) and send it back to me as a short PDF file. I will then forward all suggestions - including your contact details - to the person making the inquiry. This should roughly reflect the process we want to achieve with the LeadGen program. Of course, this process will be much more structured and automated when the program is introduced, but please see this as a first test to give you the best possible benefit later. In case of any question: Duff and I will be happy to answer them! Here is the request from Markus Andratzek: "Dear Sirs, Thank you for bundling the expertise in your network to answer tricky questions about PDF. Here are my question(s): Is it possible to convert a PDF form - i.e. a PDF with dynamic content such as input fields - to PDF/A? If so, which PDF/A conformity would you recommend? Is it possible to convert a PDF/A form, which was once a PDF with dynamic content, back into a PDF without damage (input fields must then work again)? What procedure or tools do you suggest?
