Description
PDF documents are foundational to secure communication in industries like legal, finance, and healthcare, yet ensuring their authenticity, integrity, and origin remains a complex challenge. As a Technical Support Engineer at Apryse, I encounter these issues firsthand in real production environments: from helping customers troubleshoot broken or unverifiable signatures to guiding them through long-term validation (LTV), cryptographic best practices, and secure deployment strategies tailored to their systems.
In this session, I’ll share practical insights grounded in real-world support cases and implementation challenges. We’ll break down the core building blocks of PDF security, public key infrastructure (PKI), cryptographic hashing, certificate chains, and trusted timestamps, while exploring each concept in concrete examples drawn from the field.
I’ll walk through typical failure points and corrupted metadata, misconfigured certificates, or signature verification mismatches and demonstrate how to diagnose and resolve these issues using tools like RUPS and signature validation libraries.
We’ll also explore best practices for embedding digital signatures that remain verifiable across time, systems, and jurisdictions, with a focus on maintaining trust and interoperability in real workflows.
This presentation highlights actionable strategies rooted in hands-on experience to improve PDF security, validate documents reliably, and address common implementation pitfalls before they become critical failures.
Topics include:
- A practical understanding of how to implement, validate, and troubleshoot PDF digital signatures in real systems.
- Real-world examples of cryptographic pitfalls and what went wrong, and how they were resolved.
- A technical perspective on how security frameworks intersect with PDF architecture.
- Actionable techniques to strengthen document security, traceability, and long-term validation.
This presentation will give you not just the concepts, but the working knowledge and tested tools to make your PDFs not only secure—but verifiably trustworthy in real-world applications.
