callas software GmbH is expanding its involvement in the OEM business. To this end, the market leader for automated PDF quality control and archival solutions has launched a special website that comprehensively presents available solutions, use cases, integration options and pricing models, among other things. The portfolio also includes the new OEM product ‘pdfToolbox Portal’, which offers powerful functions for order management, quality control, corrections and the imposition of PDF files.
As a first step towards a stronger OEM focus, callas software appointed Jeremy Spencer as OEM Director in March 2025, the first time in its 30-year history. He says: “More than 75 OEM partners worldwide have already integrated our technology into their solutions, which range from MIS systems to web-to-print solutions and print workflows to interactive PDF editors. With our increased commitment, we want to further increase this number and become the technology leader in both the prepress and archiving markets.”
Broad product portfolio for PDF
The technology developed by callas provides the basis for various product families. These are based entirely on PDF, but each has its own focus:
- pdfToolbox enables dynamic and easy-to-integrate PDF processing in the prepress stage. The solution handles all tasks – from simple quality control (preflight) and rendering to fully automatic PDF correction.
- pdfToolbox Portal extends pdfToolbox with a task-oriented web front end and forms a white label framework that OEM customers can flexibly adapt to their corporate identity and user interface. This greatly reduces the go-to-market effort for OEM customers.
- pdfChip creates print-ready PDF documents from static HTML or SVG files as well as from dynamic HTML templates, including HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
- pdfaPilot converts PDF files, native documents and emails into stable, searchable PDF/A files for long-term archiving. In addition, the solution checks whether PDF files comply with the PDF/UA standard according to machine-verifiable aspects.
pdfToolbox, pdfChip and pdfaPilot can be flexibly integrated into existing systems via simple command line interfaces, REST APIs, a software development kit or hot folders. In contrast, pdfToolbox Portal is available as directly installable server software without further integration.
