About iLovePDF
Turn long PDFs into clear summaries
At iLovePDF, we‘ve just released our new AI Summarizer, a tool that turns long PDF documents into short, structured summaries directly inside our platform. It‘s part of our broader effort to bring AI capabilities into everyday document workflows, alongside the tools you already use to edit, convert, organise, and secure your PDFs.
What the tool does
Our AI Summarizer reads a PDF and produces a written summary highlighting the document‘s main points. You upload a file from your device or from a connected cloud source, choose how you‘d like the summary generated, and receive the output in seconds. Two settings control the result:
- Summary length – short, medium, or long, depending on how much detail you need.
- Processing mode – Standard AI for fast, everyday summaries, or Advanced AI for more detailed or technical documents where nuance matters.
We generate summaries in the language set on your iLovePDF interface, which makes the tool easy to use across multilingual teams and cross-border workflows. You can copy or download the output for reuse in notes, briefs, or other documents.
For scanned PDFs where the text is not selectable, we recommend running OCR before summarisation — it improves the quality of what the model can extract. It‘s a useful reminder that any AI output is only as good as its input, and that text-encoded PDFs (rather than image-only scans) remain essential for downstream automation.
A few practical use cases
We see AI summarisation as most valuable when reading every page is possible, but rarely the best use of time. Here are a few scenarios where the tool fits naturally into existing workflows:
- Reviewing reports before a meeting. A 40-page quarterly report or board pack can be reduced to a one-page brief in seconds, giving you a quick map of the document before you open it for verification.
- Triaging contracts and proposals. Legal and procurement teams handling stacks of vendor agreements or RFP responses can use short summaries to sort, prioritise, and decide which documents deserve a full read.
- Studying and research. Students and researchers working through dense academic PDFs can generate structured overviews to orient themselves before deeper reading, then return to the source to verify specifics.
- Public sector and compliance documents. Long policy papers, regulatory filings, and government reports often contain key obligations buried in dense prose. A long-form summary using Advanced AI can surface deadlines, requirements, and exceptions for closer review.
- Multilingual document handling. Combined with our AI translation tools, the Summarizer helps teams working across languages get a quick understanding of foreign-language documents before deciding whether to commission a full translation.
One practical note from us: if you‘re using a summary to support a real decision, verify any numbers, deadlines, or contractual obligations against the source PDF. We designed the tool to help you read faster and more strategically — not to replace reading the original where it matters.
