About Anna Rubio, iLovePDF
iLovePDF has introduced Smart range mode, a new option in its Split PDF tool that divides documents by content and intent rather than by page numbers. Instead of typing out page ranges by hand, users tell the tool what kind of document they have and how they want it split, and the AI reads the file page by page to find the natural boundaries.

Splitting by content, not pages
Most long PDFs are really many documents stitched together — a 200-page bundle might hold 60 invoices from 14 vendors, or a single export might contain payslips for a whole department. Smart range mode reads the file the way a human reviewer would, looking for invoice numbers, employee names, claim IDs, blank separator pages, repeating headers, and chapter titles to locate where each logical document begins and ends. That approach keeps it accurate even on scanned files and mixed batches.
Categories and presets
The tool starts with a document category — invoices, contracts, bank statements, academic records, medical and healthcare records, HR documents, insurance, shipping and customs, government forms, scanned batches, marketing materials, and books — each tuned to the structure and language of that document type. Selecting a category surfaces split presets relevant to it, such as splitting invoices by invoice number, statements by month, or books by chapter.
Custom prompts for anything else
When no preset fits, a Custom prompt option lets users describe the split in plain language — for example, splitting a file each time a date in the corner changes, or each time a page reads "Application complete." The clearer the instruction, the better the result.
For scanned documents, running OCR first to make the content text-searchable noticeably improves detection.
Smart range mode is built to scale from a single large file to enterprise document batches, fitting workflows in finance, legal, healthcare, HR, and logistics.
