Developers building automated invoicing, reporting engines, and data-driven document pipelines face a recurring problem: content added programmatically to an existing PDF has to respect layout, visual styling, and document structure at the same time. Get the first two right and break the third, and the document is worse than it was before you touched it.
The updated Add to PDF REST API Tool addresses all three. Built on the Adobe PDF Library, it now gives developers control over structure tagging, multi-page table construction, and vector graphics when inserting content into existing PDF files.
Structured Table Building and Flexible Styling
Constructing data-dense reports requires flexible layout controls that adapt as content grows. The updated Add to PDF tool enables programmatic creation of complex tables that can include headers, body rows, footers, merged cells, and mixed text or image content.
- Flexible Table Design: Customize layout parameters using fixed or relative column widths, explicit cell padding, text wrapping, opacity controls, and per-side border styling.
- Multi-Page Spanning: Tables that exceed a single page continue across page boundaries with optional repeating headers and footers to maintain legibility.
- Streamlined Reporting Pipelines: Remove the need for external rendering engines by building dynamic financial statements, itemized invoices, and executive summaries directly through API calls.

Drawing Primitives and Image Sizing
In addition to table features, the upgrade introduces new geometric drawing primitives and enhanced image sizing controls to give developers finer control over the placement of visual elements.
- Line and Rectangle Primitives: Draw crisp lines and rectangles directly on the PDF canvas to construct custom borders, callout boxes, and visual section dividers.
- Enhanced Image Controls: Apply precise scaling and alignment rules when inserting image assets alongside text and tabular content.
Automated Accessibility Tagging
Adding new content to existing PDF documents can complicate document structure if accessibility tags are omitted or improperly formatted. The Add to PDF tool now includes optional automated tagging to preserve document accessibility standards.
- Standard Structure Application: Automatically apply standard PDF structure tags, including Table, TH, TD, row and column spans, and Figures, to all newly inserted content.
- Preserved Document Hierarchy: Insert accessible tables and graphics without altering or disrupting existing tag trees within the target document.
