The latest release of Adobe PDF Library (APDFL) expands its PDF/X support for print production workflows and gives C++ developers a new reference for Office-to-PDF conversion.
PDF/X-4p conversion
APDFL now supports conversion to PDF/X-4p, which gives PDF/X workflows more flexibility when they use externally referenced ICC color profiles. Color profiles can be managed separately from the PDF while the file still meets standardized print production requirements. This suits workflows where shared or centrally managed color profiles are preferred.
PDF/X-5pg conversion
Support for PDF/X-5pg conversion is also new. It is aimed at print workflows that use both externally referenced graphical content and externally referenced ICC output profiles. In production environments where high-resolution graphics and color profiles are managed separately from the primary PDF file, PDF/X-5pg can streamline workflows built on shared external resources while maintaining PDF/X compliance for professional print production.
New ConvertWordToPDF sample
The release adds a ConvertWordToPDF sample that demonstrates Microsoft Word (DOCX) to PDF conversion through the Office-to-PDF Plugin. It shows developers how to use APDFL together with the plugin to bring DOCX conversion into automated document-processing workflows, and it can serve as a starting point for applications that need to convert Microsoft Office content before further PDF processing. By providing a working example of the conversion workflow, the sample helps reduce implementation effort.
The sample is currently available only for the Modern C++ interface. Support for additional interfaces is planned for a future release.
Package updates
The NuGet and Maven package versions have both been increased to 21.4.0.
