At the Smart Country Convention 2026 in Berlin, one of Europe’s largest events for public sector digitalization, axes4 brought together partners from across the accessibility community at a joint booth under the motto “Smarter Accessibility for All.” Together with IAAP D-A-CH, Dialog Group, Materna, mindscreen, CAAT, Pfennigparade and the newly founded Association for the Promotion of Accessibility, the booth offered visitors expertise on accessible documents, PDF testing with PAC, high-volume document processing, certification and training.
Two talks showed how large public administrations are tackling accessible PDF at scale. Richard Schuster from the State of Berlin shared seven lessons learned from an administration with around 138,000 employees, while Josephine Schwebler explained how the German Federal Employment Agency, with more than 100,000 employees, is embedding accessibility step by step. Both came to the same conclusion: good software makes accessible documents easy, but lasting change also requires training, dedicated contacts and allies within the organization.
axes4 also presented news on PAC 2027, which will get a fully accessible user interface and run on Mac for the first time, as well as on axesWord 26.1 and axesFlip AI.
