iLovePDF has introduced its Model Context Protocol (MCP) integration, enabling AI assistants such as Claude, Cursor, and other MCP-compatible applications to access PDF processing tools directly within their workflows.

As AI assistants become increasingly integrated into professional environments, their capabilities are expanding beyond content generation and document analysis.
While AI can interpret and summarize PDFs, operations such as merging, compressing, converting, or applying Optical Character Recognition (OCR) typically require external tools.
With the iLovePDF MCP integration, users can now perform these operations through natural-language requests, connecting AI assistants with dedicated PDF processing capabilities.
Connecting AI assistants with PDF tools
The Model Context Protocol (MCP) is an open standard that allows AI applications to interact with external tools and services.
Through this integration, users can describe document tasks in natural language, while their AI assistant selects and coordinates the necessary iLovePDF tools.
For example, a user can request:
“Convert these Word documents to PDF, merge them, add page numbers, and compress the result.”
The AI assistant coordinates the workflow, while iLovePDF handles the document processing.
The integration supports a range of operations, including:
- PDF organization: Merge, split, and number pages.
- File conversion: Convert Office documents and images to PDF, or PDFs to images.
- PDF optimization: Compress documents for sharing and storage.
- OCR: Make scanned PDFs searchable.
- AI-ready documents: Convert PDFs into structured Markdown.
- Document customization: Add text or image watermarks.
Two integration options
iLovePDF offers two MCP solutions to accommodate different workflows and technical requirements.
Hosted MCP connector
Designed for individuals and teams, the hosted connector provides access to 10 PDF tools through compatible AI assistants, without requiring installation or an API key.
In applications supporting MCP Apps, users can also upload files, adjust settings, and download processed documents directly within the AI conversation.
Open-source local MCP server
Designed for developers and advanced workflows, the local MCP server enables AI assistants to process documents stored in designated folders, supporting batch operations and automation.
Available under the MIT license, it connects through an iLoveAPI public key and supports nine PDF processing tools.
The project is available on GitHub.
Bringing PDF processing into everyday AI workflows
The integration supports a variety of professional applications, from legal teams preparing document submissions to finance departments processing scanned invoices and developers building AI-powered document workflows.
PDF to Markdown also enables organizations to transform documents into structured content for AI knowledge bases and retrieval systems.
By connecting AI assistants with dedicated PDF processing tools, iLovePDF helps organizations streamline document-intensive tasks and reduce the need to switch between applications.
The introduction of MCP represents another step toward more accessible, interoperable, and AI-driven document workflows.
