The Signal, a Library of Congress blog, has a new post about archiving with our favorite format by the Library of Congress' Kate Murray, the PDF Association's Duff Johnson, and Kevin De Vorsey of the National Archives and Records Administration. Both the Library of Congress and NARA are Liaison Members of the PDF Association.

Top of blog post. The article discusses the prevalence of PDF in the federal archiving community, highlighting the utilization of the format in everyday business operations across the entire government.

PDF's ISO standardization is discussed as fundamental to the format's appeal and longevity, but readers are also cautioned that PDF's power implies that best results come from careful, guided use.

As strategic stakeholders in digital content, both the Library of Congress and NARA are fully engaged with the PDF technology community at both the ISO technical level and in terms of participating in industry events and working groups to ensure industry understand the archival requirements for long-term preservation.
