Model Based Enterprise (MBE) is an information technology strategy promoted by the Department of Defense, and embraced in many forms by a number of manufacturers inside and outside the aerospace and defense industry. MBE refers to the adoption of full 3D product definition, often called Model Based Design (MBD), and then leveraging that data throughout the lifecycle of a product.
This paper provides insight outside the defense supplier community, but in particular helps to highlight how the Department of Defense is changing its procurement practices through a revision to MIL-STD-31000, the specification for how companies provide Technical Data Packages (TDP) to the DOD.
