About callas software GmbH

callas software, a leading provider of PDF automation technology for print and document workflows, is pleased to announce that it is hosting the next Ghent Workgroup (GWG) technical meeting, taking place in Berlin on May 27 and 28. The Ghent Workgroup meets in person three times a year in different locations, to bring people together and speed up the development of specifications.

The GWG is an international assembly of industry associations, suppliers, educators and industry members from around the globe. The aim of the organisation is to establish and disseminate process specifications for best practices in graphic arts workflows. Since its inception almost 20 years ago, the GWG has consistently produced numerous process specifications for PDF exchange, developing practical tools for automating processes and testing and establishing consistent PDFs for print, publishing, and packaging production.

“At the GWG, we have always had a basic understanding of the need for an agnostic data structure for print content as well as process instructions, and that has driven our work efforts. These efforts have helped lay the groundwork for today’s print and packaging connected supply chains in the new world of automation and AI, and we still have more work to do,“ said David L. Zwang, Chair of the GWG.

David van Driessche, Chief Evangelist at callas software, is the Ghent Workgroup’s Executive Director: “Having been part of the Ghent Workgroup since its inception, it makes a lot of sense for callas to invite the GWG to our home turf in Berlin. These meetings are great at accelerating the work we do, but more importantly, our work is based on trust between our members. There is no better way to build that than through meeting in person!”

The meeting takes place close to the callas offices in Berlin. Various social activities provide time for relationship building in between the technical gatherings. “Being able to invite everyone to the callas lunch experience in our office those two days is a great additional opportunity,” laughs David van Driessche: “Having a freshly cooked lunch available every day still feels quite luxurious to me as well, and I’m looking forward to being able to share that privilege with everyone!

callas software was founded in 1995 and has focused on making PDF files usable in production environments from the start. While PDF was designed as a flexible and open format, using it reliably in production – where standardization matters – often proves challenging. callas develops technology to identify PDF files…
