UK Association for Accessible Formats logoThe UK Association for Accessible Formats (UKAAF), a standards development and promotional organization based in the United Kingdom, has partnered with the PDF Association as a liaison member.

UKAAF's liaison membership in the PDF Association will help ensure that PDF technology developments continue to promote and improve easy readability and optimization of documents for visually-impaired users.

The alliance will enable UKAAF to have a more direct influence over future developments of ISO 14289, the international standard for PDF accessibility commonly known as PDF/UA.

Commenting on the significance of the partnership, Richard West, Chair of UKAAF, said, “Being in partnership with the PDF Association enables UKAAF to be involved with future developments of the standard. It is crucial that material produced by those using PDF technology allows improved accessibility and usability.”

Duff Johnson, Executive Director of the PDF Association and ISO Project Leader for ISO 14289, said, "We're delighted to work with UKAAF to ensure the broadest possible representation of expertise on development of PDF/UA, and look forward to collaborating on the development of standards and best practices."
