Interview with René Treuber, Product Manager of axaio software, about PDF Days Europe 2018

The PDF Association staff delivers a vendor-neutral platform in service of PDF’s stakeholders.

PDF Association: At the PDF Days Europe, you will be hosting a presentation titled “Introducing ISO standards for PDF processing steps and print product metadata” – what’s that about?
René Treuber: The presentation looks into the future and explains what will become possible based on new ISO standards. Both standards make it possible to classify objects or groups of objects in a PDF file. Processing steps will be published soon. It uses PDF layers to which standardized metadata may be attached. “Print product metadata” does the same for pages or groups of pages. Both standards have been designed for the output and print industry and in the first place address requirements in digital print for packagings and transactional printing. But they also define base concepts that may be used in other industries as well.
PDF Association: Who is your presentation aimed at?
René Treuber: These new standard have a lot of potential to change workflows in prepress and print production. Metadata is essential to control today’s automated workflows. The target group is everybody who is interested to learn about new methods to control such workflows e.g. in order to better create PDF files for such processes.
PDF Association: What will the people who attend your presentation be able to take away from it?
René Treuber: A good understanding of the basic concepts of the standards, typical use cases and what software one might use in order to take advantage of them.
