RichMedia and 3D PDF Working Groups Meet in Paris
The 3D and RichMedia Technical Working Groups will be combining for an in-person session during PDF Week 2023 Paris to review developments in PDF-embedded 3D models and associated multimedia.
At PDF Week Paris 2023 on May 4, 2023, from 9 am to 1045 am CET, the 3D PDF and RichMedia Technical Working Groups (TWG) are combining for an in-Person session to introduce the world of PDF-embedded 3D models and multimedia.
Starting with a brief overview of the evolution of Multimedia and 3D support as hinted at in the Multimedia features chapter of the ISO 32000-2 PDF specification (clause 13), we will weigh the pros and cons of different implementation strategies for using these features in PDFs.
Once we have reviewed the history, we will delve into the current topics the working groups are discussing.
Notably, the 3D TWG is exploring how to add validation data to the 3D models in PDFs to provide a mechanism to verify that the models embedded in PDFs correctly match up to the original source of the model.
Meanwhile, the RichMedia TWG is analyzing the use of JavaScript in 3D PDFs, and determining the parts of the ISO 21757 ECMAScript for PDF Interface that will end up being used in documents from various sources.
We hope to hear additional topics from participants for discussion at the in-person meeting and continuing into future online meetings.
