Forensic tools for PDF

The PDF Association staff delivers a vendor-neutral platform in service of PDF’s stakeholders.


Initially conceived as a service to members of the PDF Forensics LWG, the PDF Association has published a members-only technical resource listing tools that offer PDF-aware forensic capabilities. This page is accessible via the Member | Feature support menu, where lists of other products and services may also be found..
PDF forensic tools provide a wide variety of insight into PDF files relevant to document examiners, cyber-security researchers, technical PDF software developers, and others who need to understand the intricacies of binary PDF files.
The initial listing was compiled by Peter Wyatt and reviewed by the PDF Forensics LWG. The page provides a means by which members may request updates, or add a new tool.
The 2nd table lists free and open source tools by non-members. They are included because they provide useful PDF-aware forensic tooling capabilities. Commercial tools by non-members will not be listed.
