A new resource collating all ISO groups and currently active work items related to PDF has been developed. Based on public information, this summary is invaluable for all PDF developers to ensure awareness of forthcoming changes in PDF-related standards.

ISO meeting

Now available from ISO: the Draft International Standard (DIS) version of the latest ISO 32000-2 (PDF 2.0) standard is ready for download. Notable changes include support for Reiwa, the new Japanese era, and additional clarifications and corrections.

As much as we were looking forward to PDF Days Europe 2020, including celebrating with our colleagues and friends, the coronavirus and related dynamics affecting both speakers and attendees has led us to conclude that the event is no longer feasible.

The Signal, a Library of Congress blog, has a new post about archiving with PDF by the Library of Congress’ Kate Murray, the PDF Association’s Duff Johnson, and Kevin De Vorsey of the National Archives and Records Administration.

Archives, libraries, and other memory institutions have experimented with PDF for archiving email, but have not widely implemented them as production services. As a result, many organizations are simply storing format specific email archives as unprocessed holdings. For this group, email to PDF offers a relatively straightforward migration pathway, with demonstrated downstream benefits.

The Standards Support Endowment allows the PDF Association to increase support for standards development, including a new PDF subset specification targeting repurposing of PDF content.
