PDF Week Tokyo starts May 6!
The second PDF Week event of 2024 arrives May 6-10 in Tokyo! Members can attend remotely if they cannot join us in person.PDF technology experts are meeting next week in Tokyo for the second PDF Week of 2024!
The in-person PDF Week Tokyo 2024, one of 3 such events each year, begins on Monday, May 6 at Kudan-Kaikan Terrace in Chiyoda City, adjacent to Japan's Imperial Palace. As usual, in addition to hosting meetings of ISO's TC 171 SC 2 the PDF Association's technical and liaison working groups will hold their own working sessions during PDF Week.
Remote access is provided for PDF Association members who cannot attend in-person. The overall agenda is posted. as usual for PDF Week; members should feel free to attend any of the TWGs or LWGs; just login to the Member Area to sign up if you haven't already.
TWG and LWG members should have meeting invitations in their calendar! If for whatever reason you don’t have a meeting invitation and expected one, please contact Standards Director Betsy Fanning.
Here’s a rundown of PDF Week Tokyo 2024 meetings.
Monday May 6
Imaging Model TWG: Established in 2023 to integrate modern imaging technologies in PDF, including HDR, as well as new image formats such as AVIF and JPEG-XL
C2PA: ISO TC 171 SC 2 will host an explanatory session on C2PA concepts and technology, and on plans for ISO standardization.
Digital Signature TWG: This TWG will focus on requirements for integration of C2PA into PDF's digital signatures model.
Tuesday May 7
The Imaging Model TWG continues its work from Monday.
The PDF TWG - the working group that manages the PDF technology core will continue reviewing questions arising in the PDF Issues GitHub repo and will discuss proposals related to PDF's initial graphics state.
The DocRM LWG will continue its work to establish a reference model for long term preservation of textual documents.
The Rich Media TWG's work focuses on developing guidance for the implementation of 3D annotations and PDF 2.0's RichMedia annotation type.
ISO TC 171 SC 2 Working Groups 8 (PDF) and 10 (File Formats) will meet to advance their respective agendas.
Wednesday May 8
The PDF/A TWG will finalize discussions on a dated revision aligning PDF/A-4 and PDF/X-6.
The PDF Forms TWG will continue deliberations on resolving issues for the next-generation of forms technology in PDF.
The PDF Accessibility LWG holds an all-day session on its project of developing formal techniques for accessible PDF.
ISO TC 171 SC 2 WG 9 (Accessibility) and WG 5 (Archiving) will meet to discuss new projects.
Thursday May 9
The EA-PDF LWG meets to finalize technical details on its forthcoming specification for email archiving using PDF.
The 3D PDF TWG and 3D PDF User LWGs will meet to consider next steps following the publication of ISO TS 32007 (glTF extension for PDF 2.0).
The PDF/UA Processor LWG continues development of its mapping of PDF structure concepts to their functional equivalents in web accessibility APIs.
ISO TC 171 SC 2 WG 7, which manages development of ISO standards for 3D technology in PDF, will meet to advance its agenda, followed by the SC 2 Plenary meeting.
Friday May 10
The LaTeX Project LWG will continue to address the challenge of publishing accessible technical content.
The PDF/UA TWG and PDF Reuse TWG will meet to discuss next steps following publication of WTPDF and ISO 14289-2 (PDF/UA-2).
The Deriving HTML from PDF TWG will resolve suggestions for updating the Derivation specification.
TC 171 will hold its own Plenary meeting.
